Kilborn's on the Rideau is located in historic Newboro, Ontario, just a mere 5 minute drive from the tourist village of Westport. Situated right beside the rideau canal lock station, Kilborn's caters to boaters as well tourists from all across Ontario and across the border to the United States. When Kilborn’s first opened its doors 20 years ago, it was composed of only the modest space of the old village grocery store. Over the years, Kilborn's has expanded into a lively shop consisting of three conjoined buildings and many levels and rooms.
Today, Kilborn’s is home to a wide array of different products – ranging from ladies’ and men’s fashions and footwear to kitchen supplies, furniture,home decor and gourmet foods. Historical Background:
Kilborn's gets its name from John Kilborn. In the 1830's, the present day dining room, Stirling Lodge (also located in Newboro), was his home. During the war of 1812, he obtained the rank of colonel, which was the highest rank then available to a member of the militia. He was captured by the Americans, and subsequently escaped to eventually take residence in Newboro.
